Guillaume Leonard de Bellecombe was born on February 20, 1728 in France. He took part in many French expeditions in the 18th century. He was promoted to Adjutant on March 30, 1755 and Captain on September 1, 1755. He was an adjutant during the French and Indian War, and was promoted to lieutenant-colonel shortly after, and then Colonel on December 1, 1762. He fought his last battles in the French and Indian War and at an expedition in NewFoundland in 1762. He was Governor of St. Domingue, a French island in the Caribbean, from 1781-1785. He retired in 1785 and died on February 28, 1792 in France.
